Passport and Visa
Valid passport with entry visa is required for all tourists & businessmen, applicable at Myanmar Embassies and Consulate General Offices abroad. Both Tourist Visa & Business Visa are valid for 28 days, extendible to 14 days for tourists & 3 months for business. Two types of Tourist Visa: EVT (FIT) and EVT (Package) Visa.

Customs Procedures
All items of jewellery, cameras and foreign currency in excess of USD 2,000, must be declared upon arrival and on the currency declaration forms. These forms are to be completed during the flight to Yangon and should submit them upon arrival. No Myanmar currency may be imported or exported.

Upon arrival your passport and visa will be checked. Our representative will join travellers on arrival after immigration and customs control points have been passed. The representative will display an 'Amber Tours' sign for easy recognition.

Duty free allowance is 200 cigarettes and one liter of wine or spirit. Export of Buddha images, gemstones and antiques without an official receipt is prohibited.

It is not permitted to bring mobile phones into the country. Even if they are not connectable to international networks such as GSM, you will have to leave it at the customs at Yangon International Airport and released only upon departure.

Duty Free Shopping
Duty Free shopping facilities are available in both the Departure and Arrival Halls of Yangon International Airport.

Currency
Myanmar currency is Kyat and the denominations are K-1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 & 1000. The official exchange rate is around 6 Kyat to US$ 1 but the prevailing market rate is higher. FEC generally accepted at the fixed rate of US $ 1= 1 and are payable to all bills and purchases as US$. FECs also are exchanged for local currency with prevailing market rate.
Credit cards are not accepted in Myanmar and only a few hotels in Yangon accept travellers check. Would like to recommend to bring cash in US Dollar.

Health
No vaccinations are officially required for a visit to Myanmar. Travellers should check with their doctor or a travel immunization clinic regarding the advisability of inoculation against typhoid, hepatitis, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis. Travellers should bring adequate supplies of any prescription medicines they may need.
It is a wise choice to use an insect repellent against mosquitoes, especially upcountry and in forested areas. The sun can be very hot especially in April and May and a hat, sun glasses and high-factor block cream is advisable. The same precautions as anywhere else drink only bottled water. Do not eat raw vegetables; only eat fruits that you can peel or cut yourself. Be wary of eating food from street stalls.

Clothing
Light, casual wear, preferably cotton is suitable all year round. A cardigan or light jacket, when visiting northern Myanmar in the cold season and an umbrella during the rainy season are suggested. Sandals or slippers are convenient, as the dress code for pagodas and monasteries prescribe decent apparel and no footwear (i.e. removal of shoes and socks).

Shopping
Bargaining is an art long-practiced in Asia including Myanmar. Ask for a proper discount when shopping in places where prices are not marked. Myanmar arts and crafts, mostly handmade, are best souvenirs and prices are reasonable. Lacquer-ware, wood and ivory carvings, tapestries, silverware, brassware, silk and cotton fabrics and shoulder bags are some of the favourite items. Finest Myanmar ruby, sapphire, jade and pearl are available at Myanmar gems shops.

Communication
Overseas calls can be made through International direct dial (IDD) phones available at Telephone offices and hotels. Internet interactive service is currently not available in Myanmar however e-mail is available at most hotels and internet cafés in Yangon. Up country excess via email is getting limited however IDD fax service is available at most hotels. At present the local GSM network does not support global network therefore if you bring your mobile phone into Myanmar please leave it with the custom department upon arrival and reclaim upon departure.

Business hours
Banks open at 10:30 till 14:00, Monday through Friday. Government offices open at 09:30 till 16:30 Monday through Friday. Most private offices open at 09:30 till 17:00, Monday through Friday and 09:30 till 12:00 on Saturday.

Time
The Myanmar Standard Time is six and half-hours in advance of GMT.

Electricity
Domestic power AC 220-250V 50Hz.

Transportation
The quickest and most comfortable mode of domestic travel is flying. Domestic Airlines use ATR-72 and ATR-42 aircrafts and jet. Baggage allowance on domestic flights is limited to 20kg. Excess luggage can be left in Yangon hotels for collection on return from upcountry. Public train, ferryboat and bus are other transportation services that are available throughout the country, however, these services can be uncomfortable for some. The boat trip between Mandalay and Bagan is operated by a local Chinese-built ferry and takes about 8 hours (depending on the river conditions it might take longer). Cars and coaches used are air-conditioned vehicles.

Airport Tax
The airport tax is US $10 for international passengers, payable in USD or FEC (Foreign Exchange Certificates). There is no airport tax on domestic flights.
